Taking one step towards internationalization, according to the vision of the Faculty and University, Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) was approaching towards international cooperation with the Faculty of Architecture and Regional Planning Technische Universität Wien (TU Wien), Austria. As a first step, the Head of the Department of Architecture Dr. Agung Murti Nugroho, ST., MT., Wednesday (22/Apr/2015) made a visit to TU Wien accompanied by Yusfan Adeputera Yusran ST., MT., lecturer of Department of Architecture, who is currently studying at TU Wien.
During the visit, Agung welcomed by the Dean of Faculty of Architecture and Regional Planning TU Wien, Prof. Rudolf Scheuvens, Head of the Department of History of Architecture and Building Archeology, Prof. Marina Döring-Williams, Head of the Institute of Comparative Research in Architecture, Prof. Erich Lehner, and one of the researchers, Dr. Ulrike Herbig. The event was also attended by the staff of the consular relationship Indonesian Embassy in Austria, Mr. Deni Sandra and several doctoral student from Indonesia who also was studying architecture at the TU Wien.
On this occasion, Agung described some advantages of Department of Architecture FTUB, which can be used as a pilot research project together with TU Wien. “The high interest of TU Wien to explore the potential of architectures archipelago is one of the initial steps that can be use optimally in this future cooperation,” said Agung. In response, Prof. Rudolf welcomed this initiative and look forward to the future not only in the field of architecture alone, but this cooperation can also be extended to the field of regional planning as well, as his educational background also in that field.
Having met the dean, Agung and the team welcomed by Prof. Erich Lehner and Dr. Ulrike Herbig to discuss the technicalities of this cooperation further. One aspect that can be investigated by the Department of Architecture of FT UB in the near future isfreilichtmuseum phenomenon in Austria. “We hope with this study can be found a formula that can be applied in Indonesia in order to rescue traditional houses in Indonesia,” said Erich. In the future, they hope it can be a media to have exchange of ideas and development of education and research between the two parties, especially in master student exchanges and visiting researcher/professor.
